Here’s the challenge: list the chronological events of Jesus’s resurrection.

That’s it.  Create any narrative that includes every detail given by the Bible.

Feel free to be as generous as possible.  So, for example, when Matthew says an angel appears to Marys, then Mark says there is a young man in a white robe – maybe that’s the same thing. Then, when Luke says there are two men in dazzling clothes, and John mentions no angels…that’s allowed!  Maybe there were 2 angels and one just looked like a dude in a robe.  There’s no rule that says any particular author has to mention all the angels that showed up, even if it does seem peculiar to say “an angel appeared,” when it was really two, and you just decided to give one the cold shoulder.

Also feel free to completely fabricate any additional details to fill in the story. Also utilize memory wiping, time travel, or teleportation for any of the characters involved, as necessary. In fact, assign any superpowers needed to make the story work, while keeping it as believable as possible and incorporating all the details from the Bible.

I’ve even done the work of listing all the references below.  Feel free to cut and paste and try it for yourself.  I haven’t been able to get these stories to line up yet.  Please let me know if you can create a version that works!

Matthew 28:

• Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. (Matthew 28:1)
• And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. (Matthew 28:2)
• His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. (Matthew 28:3)
• And the guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. (Matthew 28:4)
• But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.” (Matthew 28:5)
• “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” (Matthew 28:6)

• Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing. (John 21:3)
• But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. (John 21:4)
• Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?” They answered Him, “No.” (John 21:5)
• And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish. (John 21:6)
• Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea. (John 21:7)
• But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish. (John 21:8)
• Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. (John 21:9)
• Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.” (John 21:10)
• Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken. (John 21:11)
• Jesus said to them, “Come and eat breakfast.” Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?” – knowing that it was the Lord. (John 21:12)
• Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish. (John 21:13)
• This is now the third time Jesus showed Himself to His disciples after He was raised from the dead. (John 21:14)
• So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.” (John 21:15)
• He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.” (John 21:16)
• He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.” (John 21:17)
• “Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” (John 21:18)
• This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.” (John 21:19)
• Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” (John 21:20)
• Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” (John 21:21)
• Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.” (John 21:22)
• Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?” (John 21:23)
• This is the disciple who testifies of these things and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true. (John 21:24)

Acts 1:1-12:

• And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; (Acts 1:4)

• Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6)

1 Corinthians 15:3-8
